As we have begun Lent, I have been focusing on sacrificing things and adding more prayer. For those of you that don’t practice Lent, it’s a time to purify ourselves in a sense – to reset. It’s a time to look at what we do and how we act, and decide if we are being the best version of ourselves.
When I push my body to it’s limits, I see it as a sort of penance; a mortification, if you will. I offer that suffering up to the heavens, in hopes that I can help a poor soul along it’s way from Purgatory to Eternal Light. This passage really meant a lot to me today, and I wanted to share it with you.
This is from Everyday with Mary:
“There is a Navajo tale that tells of a warrior who searched for God. Seeing God on a mountaintop, the scout rode up and dismounted. He took three arrows and held them high above his head, then placed the arrows at God’s feet. God waved the scout away. The scout returned to his horse, took the woven blanket, held it high above his head, and laid it at God’s feet. God waved the scout away. Then the scout took his most prized possession; he led his horse to God, and placed the reins in God’s hands. God waived the scout away. The scout extended his arms toward God and dropped to his knees. God looked at the scout and smiled. The warrior realized he could not negotiate a relationship with God on his terms. He must surrender all. ”
What do you cling to? How can you surrender to God today?
