You can sense it in the air. The mornings are getting cooler, as are the evenings. It feels like football outside. Running feels easier when the heat isn’t pressing upon you.
As I run on the trail near my house, I make a point to take in all of the green I see. I know that in a few weeks, the colors will be out, and then the trees will quickly become bare. I love this time of year, but I also feel a sense of melancholy. I know what’s coming.
Don’t get me wrong, I do love the fall. I love when it’s campfire season. I love getting out my hoodies. I just wish I could skip most of the winter. When the trees become trunks and twigs, I long to see them adorned with lush, green leaves again. That is why we always plant evergreens in our yard. I need to see green year round.
On these crisp mornings, I take great delight in drinking my coffee at an open window. I love the feeling of the cold, fresh air on my bare feet while I sip my mug of yumminess. There’s nothing better than watching the sunrise in this state.
Soon, it will be too cold to enjoy this morning routine, so I will savor it as I savor the green-ness of the trees. As the cooler temperatures come, we will find it hard to remember the heat of the summer. And time will march on.
Run Happy.
Run Long.
